Upper Mustang:
14-Day Trekking Itinerary
The separate kingdom in hidden Trans- Himalayan valley behind the Annapurnas is known as Upper Mustang. A traditional world trade route to Tibet has been open to travelers since 1992. Cold desert, a lost kingdom, rich in ancient tradition, mythology, and huge barren areas are similar to Tibetan plateau. The people of Mustang are of Tibetan origin and their way of life and spoken language reflects this ancestral lineage. The landscape of Mustang is red fluted hills, cliffs, pinnacles in lower and upper Mustang has yellow and gray rolling hills. During the daytime Mustang region is mostly windy because of dry air. Some parts are fertile valleys where certain crops are grown- Tibetan barley, fruits, buckwheat, etc. Journey to the hidden kingdom is an unique experience for trekkers. Rich in inhabitants of Tibetan heritage have built several Buddhist monuments, paintings, and walls; the Gompas are the most significant.
Mustang program itinerary
Day- 01: Fly to Jomsom from Pokhara and trek to Kagbeni.
Day- 02: Kagbeni to Chele.
Day- 03: Chele to Sangboche or Gelling (3806 m.)
Day- 04: Sangboche or Glling to Ghami.
Day- 05: Ghami to Tsarang.
Day- 06: Tsarang to Lo-Manthang.
Day- 07: Lo-Mangthang – visiting surrounding areas, excursion to Tibetan border.
Day- 08: Lo-Manthang to Tsarang.
Day- 09: Tsarang to Ghami.
Day- 10: Ghami to Samar via. Nya-La pass.
Day- 11: Samar to Kgbeni.
Day- 12: Kagbeni toJomsom.
Day- 13: Jomsom lay over day.
Day- 14: Fly back to Pokhara.
If needed extra days in Pokhara can be extended.
The above Package includes the following services:
- Airport transfers
- Land Transfer Kathmandu-Beni by private transport
- 3-meals per day prepared by our experienced cook
- Camping gear (two-person tents, foam mattress, kitchen tent, dining tent, table, chairs and toilet tent)
- Supporting field staffs including professional Sherpa trekking guide, cook, kitchen boy, porters as well as their necessary insurance, meals and allowances
- Restricted area entrance permits fee for Upper Mustang which cost US$ 700.00 per Person
- Annapurna conservation Area Project entrance permit fee
- Domestic airfare after the trip (Jomsom-Pokhara)
The above Package does not include:
- Meals and accommodation in Kathmandu
- Personal equipment sleeping bag, Down jacket, waterproof jacket, kit bag etc. (you can rent them in Kathmandu at a cost of US$ 1 per item for day)
- Kathmandu airport departure tax
- Travel / medical insurance and emergency evacuation cost
- Personal expenses such as laundry, telephone calls, alcoholic beverages, bottled drinks (including cold drinks and mineral water), tips etc.
