» What to Wear

Every one whoever start their out door activities sports and trekking needs different wear which fit for the different altitude that protect from coldness and hot. In this field we are suggesting to the trekkers that is from the normal to high altitude for every season. When packing, don’t worry about the weight. You shouldn’t need to do much more than man-handle your pack around. The porters are used to carrying much more weight than this.

You will need a good wind-proof, water-proof jacket for the normal trek. It doesn’t have to be warm; you can layer-up underneath it. These items are available in Kathmandu market at a very reasonable price.

You need good shoes, Boots with ankle support are must bring what you are comfortable and also need one change of shoes. You may need to wear these second shoes on trek if you get blisters so chose carefully. A pair of heavy sandals which can fit socks underneath can be good.

Loose trousers are easier to walk in if you are taking large steps uphill. Track pants are easy to wear after trekking and will still fit you when you loose 5 kilos – fleecy ones are a bit warm lower down but normal ones are a bit cool higher up and few t-shirts; both long and short sleeved.

Ladies, a sports-bra or those elasticated crop-tops can keep you comfortable. A long day of down-hilling can have you jiggling way too much for comfort.

You will need your own toiletries and towels. Trekking towels dry quickly and are light enough to keep one in your day pack. You will need your own little medical kit, sewing repair bits and bobs and a good torch.

Even if you bring better clothes for looking good around city you don’t have to take them trekking with you leave things in Kathmandu and Pokhara quite safe.
Bring good books you’ve been meaning to read. There is a fair bit of sitting around time and you won’t be carrying them.

Accessories are up to you. Definitely good sunglasses. (If you wear prescription glasses best to bring a copy of the script in case you lose them). Or perhaps an old pair as a ‘spare’. Light coloured sunglasses will be inadequate. Wrap-around sunglasses will keep the glare out of the sides and the gritty wind. A warm hat, gloves, good socks and sun-hat is very useful. Early on the trek it will be sunny and hot and it is also useful for warm sight-seeing days in town.

So if you put this list together with the Health Issues list you will surely be one of the best-equipped trekkers to set foot in Nepal since Sir Edmund Hillary.

About health for trekkers
You must ask your doctor what is suitable for you when you prepare your trip to Nepal or out of your home.

On Trek:

Your personal water bottle will often be filled with filtered, boiled water - but not always. Choose a water purification system you can live with – either iodine (crystals are best) or Micro-Pur (chlorine). We prefer the ‘swimming pool’ flavour of chlorine and it is handy to use.

There are drugs for altitude sickness. We go up so slowly we are in no danger of getting sick. There is also the issue of masking the symptoms of altitude sickness with drugs. Better to listen to your body and stay down till you feel better and go down even lower if you don’t. This works we have enough time in our itinerary for the odd ‘sickie".

Women still menstruating will need to take their sanitary needs into account. Western style pads and tampons are available in town but are very expensive on trek.

Hope all this doesn’t put anyone off. Armed with this information you should have a healthy trek. Chances are that trekking in Nepal will make you feel healthier than you have ever been in your life. All that walking will keep you regular and you’ll sleep like a baby.
